Liberal Democrats in Hartlepool Demand Tougher Action on Fly-Tipping
Recently selected Lib Dem Candidate for Foggy Furze, Connor Stallard, is calling for the council to take tougher action on the issue of fly-tipping in Hartlepool. Recent Lib Dem analysis of government data reveals a concerning rise in fly-tipping incidents, with over 3,000 rseported cases in 2024 – a 40% increase from the previous year.
The spike in fly-tipping has come at a significant cost to Hartlepool's local council, which has spent over £240,000 in efforts to tackle the problem. Despite this, the council has only issued 17 fines to fly-tippers, raising concerns that current enforcement measures are insufficient.
Connor said: "It is unacceptable that we are seeing huge increases in fly-tipping. We urgently need tougher action to tackle this growing issue. The lack of fines and penalties is not only wasting taxpayer money but also leaving our streets littered with waste. I'm calling for greater enforcement of fixed penalties to fly-tippers, not only to lighten the load on local taxpayers but also to help keep our streets clean and safe."
Connor and the local Lib Dem team have been actively recording and reporting fly-tipping incidents to the council, pushing for better action to protect Hartlepool’s environment and ensure that those responsible for illegal dumping are held accountable.
The Liberal Democrats are urging the council to take more decisive action in both tackling fly-tipping and enforcing penalties to discourage this behaviour in the future.
